About Us

Welcome to the Diesel Image Gallery.

Here you will find a growing collection of colour images of heritage and modern diesel and electric traction from the 1960's to the present day. These images are a combination of my own work and images that have been collected over the years from many other photographers. I hope that you enjoy perusing the galleries and can find some images that are of particular interest to you.

Several years ago the Diesel Image Gallery started life purely as a convenient way that I could store and view a selection of my own photographs. At that time I never thought that the web site would become so popular and would eventually attract many hundreds of hits daily. Not only this but the fact that people would take time to contact me with additional information, correct errors or simply comment on the images was encouraging and very pleasing.

I hope that the new web site will meet with the same approval. With the many features available from the software used to create the web site finding particular items will be simpler and faster.

The images contained within the galleries are from three types of media, digital, slides and negatives. This is shown as the last letter of the image reference number, D for digital, S for slide, N for negative and M for black and white negatives.

Our Slides and negatives are scanned and digitally processed, cleaned and spotted in preparation for inclusion in the gallery.

Should you just want to browse and enjoy the images this will still be a relaxing and pleasurable experience which I hope that you enjoy.

Prints and Digital Downloads are available and instructions on how to order can be found in the Ordering link.

The Galleries have been formatted by decades from the 1960's to the present day and have all been given appropriate 'Album' names. These galleries contain images from slides and negatives only.

Digital images have been arranged by routes and areas such as West Coast Mainline and these galleries will contain digital images taken since 2005.

The search engine is a very powerful part of the program and will allow you to select only what you wish to see. Each image has a selection of keywords and these can be used to create a search by clicking on them or as an indication of a keyword to use in the search facility.

I have a bit of a passion for loco nameplates, often overlooked by many but an important part of individual loco history. These images are listed by class with some of them being grouped together for convenience.

Finally I have added a non railway gallery which through time will be populated with appropriate images and also one for Blackpool Trams which are the results of happy summer holidays in the resort during the eighties.
